Mo Salah penned a new contract with Liverpool last week, and reports suggest Virgil van Dijk is also close to agreeing an extension. Now, there’s even more encouraging news regarding player contracts, according to the Liverpool Echo (via Rousing The Kop).

During the summer, goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros had asked to leave the club. However, after making his senior Premier League debut this season as a substitute, the Czech international is now poised to sign a new deal.

The 23-year-old caught the eye when he stepped in for the injured Caoimhin Kelleher at Selhurst Park in October, and he later earned a starting spot in the League Cup clash against Brighton.

Since arriving at Liverpool in 2017, Jaros has gained experience through loan spells at St. Pat’s, Notts County, Stockport, and Austrian side Sturm Graz. Most recently, he was on the bench during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over West Ham at Anfield on Sunday and is now aiming to make more first-team appearances next season.

With Kelleher potentially leaving in the summer—Chelsea are reportedly interested and his contract is entering its final year—Jaros could see more opportunities. Meanwhile, Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to join Arne Slot’s squad for pre-season after completing a loan at Valencia, following his move to Liverpool last year.

Jaros was described as “brilliant” in pre-season by teammate No. 62, and from what we’ve seen of him so far, there’s genuine excitement about his potential.
