Everton haven’t signed a senior men’s player from Liverpool since 1992, when the late Gary Ablett made the rare switch across Stanley Park. That long-standing record might soon change, however. The last direct transfer between the two Merseyside rivals came in January 2002, when Abel Xavier swapped Goodison Park for Anfield — a rare occurrence, as moves between the clubs have been few and far between in recent decades.

Now, a new report suggests David Moyes has his eye on a current Liverpool player under Arne Slot’s management.

Everton among six clubs interested in Quansah

According to CaughtOffside, Everton are one of six clubs reportedly interested in signing Jarell Quansah, with Liverpool said to be open to offers around €35m (£30m).

Other Premier League sides in the mix include Newcastle, Brentford, and Bournemouth, while German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen — the latter led by ex-Red Xabi Alonso — are also noted as serious contenders.

Quansah exit to Everton seems unlikely

The report echoes recent insight from Fabrizio Romano, noting that Quansah has had limited opportunities under Slot — starting just two league games and even being overlooked for an out-of-position Curtis Jones during a defensive injury crisis.

At 22, Quansah might be tempted to seek regular football elsewhere, but Liverpool still view him as an important squad member. Slot himself has suggested the defender has “outgrown being called a talent,” while teammate Alexis Mac Allister recently called him “amazing” and “so important for the team.”

Given Liverpool’s defensive issues this season, the club would be taking a major risk letting Quansah go without securing a top-quality replacement. And while a summer sale can’t be ruled out entirely, a move to Everton — or even another Premier League rival like Newcastle — seems highly improbable due to the competitive and historical context.

Ideally, Quansah will still play a key role before the season ends and convince Liverpool’s hierarchy that he deserves a long-term future at Anfield — unless he’s truly set on a fresh start.
