Liverpool fans have been relishing our prolonged march toward the title, but a recent decision has highlighted just how little consideration we’re being shown.

As confirmed by liverpoolfc.com: “Liverpool’s penultimate Premier League fixture, away to Brighton & Hove Albion, has been rescheduled. The match at the Amex Stadium will now kick off at 8pm BST on Monday, May 19, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK.”

This rescheduling means our final away game of the season — a game that should be a celebration — becomes a logistical nightmare for the dedicated supporters who’ve followed the team across the country all year.

To get to Brighton in time via train, fans would need to depart Liverpool around 2:45pm, likely taking time off work. Getting home is even worse — there are no return trains after the match, meaning an overnight stay and an early morning journey to get back by 9am Tuesday.

Factoring in travel and accommodation, fans are looking at spending upwards of £120 — all for a game where the league is already wrapped up. Driving doesn’t help much either; you’d need to set off by 2pm and wouldn’t get back until around 4:30am.

While this kind of sacrifice is routine for away supporters, it just proves how little thought broadcasters give to those in the stands. This decision — made to place Liverpool as the final Monday Night Football game of the season — clearly prioritizes TV schedules over real fans.

Meanwhile, Everton’s home farewell at Goodison has been moved to Sunday at noon, and even the already-relegated Southampton fans aren’t considered in the planning.

Supporters are the soul of football. Whether it’s Liverpool fans or even Arsenal ones borrowing our songs, we all deserve better treatment.

Virgil van Dijk has called for a sea of red to back the team in the run-in — but maybe it’s time that same passion was directed toward protesting how little regard TV companies show the fans who make this sport what it is.
