Over the past few months, Trent Alexander-Arnold has frequently been linked with a potential move from Liverpool to Real Madrid.
The right-back recently netted the winning goal against Leicester City, keeping Liverpool firmly in the Premier League title race. Despite his strong performances, Alexander-Arnold has yet to commit to a new contract, largely due to interest from the Spanish giants. However, with reports suggesting Carlo Ancelotti could be on his way out at Real Madrid, the Liverpool defender is now reportedly reconsidering his options.
Real Madrid have identified Alexander-Arnold as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window, but the potential departure of Ancelotti has introduced doubts into the equation. The player is now said to be unsure about leaving the club he’s supported since childhood.
According to Mick Brown, there’s a real possibility the England international could remain at Anfield.
“There’s a chance he stays at Liverpool,” Brown told Football Insider. “There’s been speculation all season, but no deal has been signed yet. Ancelotti possibly leaving Madrid could be a major factor – it might cause Trent to reevaluate his decision.
“Madrid may be heading into a rebuilding phase, which could bring uncertainty. Ancelotti’s influence was key, especially given his past ties to Merseyside. Without him, Trent might not see the same fit.
“This late twist changes everything. He’ll be asking questions and could be having second thoughts. Fan pressure and the club’s efforts might just convince him to stay.”
As things stand, Alexander-Arnold remains the only major Liverpool star without a new deal, following recent renewals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
Though he has faced criticism for delaying his decision, the situation appears far less certain than it once did. Behind the scenes, Liverpool are preparing for any outcome, lining up right-back reinforcements and also pursuing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen as part of their summer plans.
