Huge setback: Liverpool have made “no headway” in negotiations for 25-year-old defender.

Contract talks between Liverpool and Ibrahima Konaté have reportedly hit a standstill, casting doubt over the defender’s long-term future at Anfield.

Despite enjoying his most consistent season so far—starting 26 Premier League games—the 25-year-old Frenchman has yet to agree to a contract extension beyond his current deal, which runs until 2026. While Liverpool recently secured new contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, Konaté’s situation remains unresolved.

This puts Liverpool in a potentially tricky position, similar to the ongoing contract uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to the Daily Mail, there has been “zero progress” in negotiations with Konaté, a worrying sign amid reported interest from clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain.

Sporting director Richard Hughes is said to be actively working to find a solution, but as the summer approaches, Konaté will enter the final year of his contract—potentially forcing Liverpool to consider a sale if no agreement is reached.

This uncertainty adds to a possible defensive shake-up at the club, with players expected to depart and new additions anticipated. One such move could be the signing of Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, as Liverpool look to strengthen at left-back.

As for Konaté, he has remained focused on his performances, recently saying: “I am really focused on what happens now. We will see what will happen.” However, with time running out on his contract and interest from major European clubs, Liverpool may need to accelerate discussions soon.
