Huge setback: Liverpool have made no headway in securing a deal for 25-year-old defender

Liverpool’s contract talks with Ibrahima Konaté have reportedly hit a standstill, casting doubt over his long-term future at Anfield.

Despite enjoying his most consistent season yet—starting 26 Premier League games—the 25-year-old French defender has not agreed to extend his current deal, which runs until 2026.

While Liverpool have recently tied down key players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, Konaté’s situation remains unresolved, mirroring the uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract talks.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have made “zero progress” in negotiations with Konaté, sparking concerns—especially with interest from clubs like Paris Saint-Germain.

Sporting director Richard Hughes is reportedly working to resolve the matter, but time is pressing. Konaté will enter the final year of his contract this summer, potentially forcing Liverpool to consider selling if a renewal isn’t agreed.

The Reds also face interest in other defenders, including Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah, suggesting significant defensive changes could be on the horizon.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez to reinforce the position.

Konaté has remained focused on his present form, saying, “I am really focused on what happens now. We will see what will happen.” Still, with his contract running down and big clubs circling, Liverpool may need to accelerate talks to secure his future.
