Gary Neville gave Liverpool added motivation to clinch the Premier League title against Tottenham earlier today.
Gary Neville and Ian Wright are clinging to slim hopes of a surprise Tottenham win over Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds only need a draw against Ange Postecoglou’s struggling side to seal the Premier League title and bring the trophy back to Merseyside. Even a loss wouldn’t be disastrous—if Arsenal were to win all their remaining fixtures and draw level on points, they’d still need to edge Liverpool on goal difference to snatch the title at the end of the 2024/25 season.
A 20th league title for Liverpool would see them equal Manchester United’s historic tally of 20 English top-flight crowns.
With that in mind, both Neville and Wright are desperate for a helping hand from Spurs. Wright, with a bit of sarcasm, remarked that Arsenal “need a favour from Spurs” to keep the title race alive.
“This is the week Tottenham do it. We need a favour from Spurs,” said the former Arsenal forward on The Overlap by Sky Bet.
Neville added: “We need Palace to win tonight against Arsenal. That’d be brilliant. It’s a bit of a downer winning the league at 10pm at home and not being able to head out to celebrate.”
Let’s be honest, though—Liverpool slipping up at home this weekend feels almost impossible.
Even if Arsenal or Manchester City were the ones visiting Anfield, it’d be hard to imagine Liverpool losing. But against a Tottenham side sitting 16th in the table with just one win in their last six? Come on. Their recent away form against top-six teams tells the story:

Could Liverpool still win the title if they lose on Sunday? Absolutely.
Entertaining a Spurs upset feels far-fetched, but if it were to happen, Liverpool’s next chance would come away to Chelsea, followed by a home clash with Arsenal. History is on their side too—they’ve lost just once in their last four league trips to Stamford Bridge.
Still, clinching the title at Anfield this weekend would be ideal—and getting under Gary Neville’s skin in the process would be a perfect bonus.
