Trent responds to claims that fans will be ‘disappointed’ by his Liverpool departure

“Growing up, I watched players I admired leave the club, and it hurt. You form emotional ties with players who bring success, so I get why fans are upset, even angry.

“That reaction was part of what made the decision so difficult. It’s never easy knowing your actions might hurt people. But ultimately, I had to do what felt right for me. It’s been weighing on me for a while, and sharing it now feels like a burden lifted.

“I want fans to understand where I’m coming from and be aware of the truth behind my decision.”

This explanation will likely be the message Alexander-Arnold uses throughout his career to justify his exit as a desire for a new challenge.

While some—like Michael Owen and Steve McManaman—might relate to his choice, it doesn’t mean everyone will agree with it.
