Jonathan David drops major hint about his future as Premier League move looks unlikely

Lille striker Jonathan David has offered a strong indication about his next career move, with his current contract running down and free agency approaching this summer.

The Canadian forward is not expected to renew his deal with Lille and has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League. Liverpool and Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring him, with Newcastle, Tottenham, and West Ham also reportedly interested.

However, David recently made it clear that his heart is set on a move to La Liga. This revelation could be a setback for English clubs hoping to land the 25-year-old forward.

David expresses desire for La Liga move

Speaking on The Overlap, David said:
“I think I can adapt to any league. Each has its own style. The Premier League is definitely quicker and more physical than the others. But growing up, I watched a lot of La Liga — that’s the league I enjoyed most, and ideally, I’d like to play there one day.”

With interest likely to come from across Europe, it remains to be seen whether a Spanish club will act on David’s public preference.

Premier League suitors may lose out

A free transfer for a striker of David’s quality would have been a great deal for Liverpool or Arsenal, even though they are also pursuing other forward options. For West Ham, in particular, this might be a missed opportunity as they seek a better option than Niclas Fullkrug up front.

Still, a move to the Premier League can’t be completely ruled out — a London-based club like West Ham could yet sway David’s decision if La Liga offers don’t materialize.
