Salah reveals the reason he almost departed Liverpool following their title-winning campaign
Liverpool fans have been reveling in another memorable season — but Mo Salah has now opened up about the behind-the-scenes drama that nearly led to his exit from Anfield.
In an interview with L’Équipe, the Egyptian star detailed the intense contract talks that took a toll on both him and the club.
“Funnily enough, it turned out to be my best season statistically,” Salah shared. “Knowing it might be my final year pushed me to give everything I had to deliver the title I promised. I told myself, if the club doesn’t want to renew my contract, that’s fine — I’ll leave with my head held high.”
Fortunately for fans, an agreement was reached, securing Salah’s place at Liverpool for at least two more seasons.
Despite continued interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, Salah has once again committed his peak years to the Reds.
This past season, which Salah believed might be his last at Liverpool, appeared to strengthen the bond between him and the supporters as they pursued a shared goal.
“Even with all the contract uncertainty, the fans saw I gave everything — no holding back,” he said. “And here, more than anywhere else, that’s what they appreciate most.”
Supporters will be thrilled that the club icon is staying put — and even more encouraged by his unwavering commitment.
With another social media post hinting at fresh ambitions for next season, it’s clear Salah has no intention of easing up.
