“Top Liverpool star signals intention to exit club this summer”

Caoimhin Kelleher edging closer to Liverpool exit in pursuit of regular football

Caoimhin Kelleher appears increasingly likely to leave Liverpool this summer, as the Irish shot-stopper seeks consistent first-team action after serving for years as Alisson Becker’s backup.

The 26-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2015, seems prepared to move on in search of a starting role elsewhere. Despite being part of the squad for nearly a decade, Kelleher has seen limited Premier League minutes, primarily featuring in domestic cup competitions and European fixtures when Alisson has been unavailable.

Kelleher has delivered strong performances when called upon, most notably playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s 2022 Carabao Cup triumph. However, Alisson’s stellar form and undisputed No. 1 status have significantly curtailed Kelleher’s chances of consistent involvement.

Kelleher ready to take next step in career

Speaking after Liverpool’s final game of the season, Kelleher reaffirmed his desire to become a first-choice goalkeeper, telling National World:

> “I think I’ve said it before as well that I feel like I’m good enough to be a number one. I feel like I’m good enough to play week in, week out – and that’s what I’m looking to do.
This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games, but it’s definitely something I’m looking at.”

While he remains under contract until 2026, Liverpool are reportedly willing to consider offers in the £15–20 million range for the Republic of Ireland international. Aston Villa, led by Unai Emery, have shown interest, especially with uncertainty surrounding the future of their current No. 1, Emiliano Martinez.

Praise and transfer interest

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has praised Kelleher’s quality, stating:

> “For me he is one of the top five keepers around… At some stage Kelleher is going to have to play or Liverpool will lose him.”

Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo has also been linked with a summer departure, with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich said to be keen on the Dutch forward.
