“Liverpool’s Diogo Jota tragically dies in car accident shortly after wedding”
Liverpool Forward Diogo Jota Dies in Tragic Car Accident in Spain
Liverpool and Portugal footballer Diogo Jota has sadly died following a car crash in the Spanish province of Zamora. The 28-year-old’s younger brother, aged 26, also lost his life in the accident, which occurred on Thursday morning near the town of Sanabria, close to the Portuguese border and the Montesinho Natural Park.
According to local reports, Jota’s vehicle veered off the road and caught fire, engulfing both the car and surrounding vegetation in flames. Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours, but both occupants of the car were pronounced dead.
The tragedy comes just days after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in a ceremony held in Portugal at the end of June. The couple had three children, the youngest born late last year.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 for a reported £40 million. He quickly established himself as a vital player at Anfield and was part of the squad that won the Premier League title last season under new manager Arne Slot.
At this time, official confirmation from the club and Jota’s family is still pending.
