Liverpool have been heavily linked with Marc Guehi for a while now, but they’ve yet to table an official bid for the Crystal Palace skipper — though that could be about to change.
Discussions between the two clubs have taken place regarding a potential deal for the 25-year-old defender. Both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein confirmed on Tuesday that, should Guehi leave Selhurst Park, his preferred destination is Anfield. He is now entering the final year of his current contract.
With just five days left in the transfer window, the clock is ticking for Liverpool’s owners, FSG, to make a move if they want to bring the England international to Merseyside this season.
Romano: Liverpool ‘ready’ to act on Guehi interest
In a Wednesday update on his YouTube channel, Romano stated that Liverpool are now prepared to submit an offer exceeding £30 million for Guehi. However, a deal may hinge on whether Crystal Palace can secure a defensive replacement.
Romano explained:
> “I can confirm that Liverpool are ready to bid more than £30m to sign Marc Guehi before the window closes. They’re still very much interested, and their stance hasn’t changed. It was between Leoni and Guehi a few weeks ago — now, Liverpool are waiting on Palace’s next move.
The outcome depends on whether Palace can find a suitable replacement and give the green light. If they do, Liverpool are ready to close the deal. If not, the Reds may just wait until 2026 and try to sign Guehi on a free.”
Romano compared the situation to the Alexander Isak saga — albeit less intense — and reiterated that the next steps rest with Palace.
Now’s the time for Liverpool to act
Reports suggest Palace are seeking around £45m for Guehi (via Miguel Delaney), so Liverpool’s initial offer — likely just over £30m — may be rejected. However, it’s common practice not to start negotiations with a high bid.
Liverpool appear to be testing the waters, aiming to see how Palace respond before deciding whether to raise their offer. If a deal doesn’t happen now, the Reds could still look to sign Guehi as a free agent next year — though that would give Palace time to renegotiate terms and potentially extend his contract.
Given Liverpool’s defensive struggles early this season, a formal bid for Guehi in the coming days seems likely, especially if Palace are able to bring in reinforcements at the back.
