Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that he may be forced to deploy a completely new attacking trio for Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Gunners are facing a growing injury crisis, with key forwards Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus all unavailable for the match. Speaking to the media, Arteta confirmed that the team might need to rely on a front three combination that has never played together before.
Among the likely candidates to start in attack are Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze. Arteta admitted that this setup would be a departure from anything Arsenal have used previously.
“We don’t have Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka — and possibly even Leandro Trossard,” Arteta told reporters. “That’s the situation we’re in, and we’ll have to try something new. It could actually work really well.”
Despite the selection issues, Arteta expressed confidence in the players available to him.
Arsenal have been plagued by injuries over the past year, with key figures like Saka, Havertz, and Jesus missing significant time last season. Others, including Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Magalhães, and Ben White, have also faced fitness concerns.
Journalist Charles Watts weighed in on Arsenal’s midfield options in his CaughtOffside column, noting that Ødegaard’s availability for the Liverpool match is uncertain. If the captain is ruled out, Watts suggested Eberechi Eze could make his first start, while young talent Ethan Nwaneri is also in contention — a bold move should Arteta decide to go that route.
