Alexander Isak expected to lose millions as Newcastle arranges to opt out of a payment from his transfer.

Although Alexander Isak never officially requested a transfer, he is expected to miss out on a significant sum after Newcastle successfully negotiated the removal of a payment linked to his record-breaking move to Liverpool.

After weeks of speculation, Liverpool have finally agreed to sign Isak. The transfer fee is reportedly around £125 million, which would break the Premier League record previously held by Enzo Fernandez’s £106 million move from Benfica to Chelsea. Including solidarity payments, the deal is worth approximately £130 million to Newcastle.

According to a report from the Mail, negotiations between Liverpool and Newcastle sped up on Sunday evening, and the clubs reached an agreement ahead of Isak’s medical scheduled for Monday. He is expected to sign a six-year contract with Liverpool under manager Arne Slot.

In addition to the transfer fee discussions, it has been revealed that Isak will not receive a loyalty payment from Newcastle because the club managed to remove this condition from the deal, as reported by Craig Hope. Legal expert Martin Salisbury from the University Campus of Football Business explained that players who do not formally submit a transfer request can maintain the value of their contract and are thus entitled to claim any outstanding wages when sold.

Isak showed a clear desire to leave Newcastle this summer and was subsequently excluded from the team’s pre-season plans. He also missed Premier League matches against Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Leeds. The situation escalated when Isak accused Newcastle of breaking promises to allow his departure, which the club immediately denied, with manager Eddie Howe insisting he wanted to keep the player.

Ahead of Newcastle’s recent Premier League match against Liverpool, Isak met with a Public Investment Fund delegation and Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben to discuss his future. Despite this, he reiterated his wish to join Liverpool, who had previously seen an offer of around £110 million rejected in August. Now, the transfer looks set to be completed before the transfer window closes at 7 pm on Monday.
