Despite Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner firmly stating on Sunday night that the club wouldn’t be selling their captain, and reporter Alex Crook suggesting a move to Anfield is ‘unlikely’, it seemed that hopes of a late transfer were fading for Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes.

However, a surprising twist has emerged that could potentially reignite Liverpool’s interest in the 25-year-old defender.

Palace close in on shock loan deal

According to freelance journalist Charlie Parker-Turner (via X), Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Brighton over a season-long loan for Igor Julio. Personal terms are reportedly not expected to be an obstacle.

Sky Sports News later confirmed that the deal includes an option to buy, and plans are already underway for the Brighton centre-back to undergo a medical in south London today.

Does this open the door for a Guehi exit?

Few Liverpool fans would’ve predicted Brighton allowing one of their players to join their fiercest rivals so close to the deadline—but if Igor Julio arrives, Palace will have five central defenders on their books.
