Marc Guehi’s Deadline Day saga with Liverpool may not be the end of the story, as new reports suggest Bayern Munich have entered the frame for the Crystal Palace centre-back.

According to Christian Falk via CF Bayern Insider, Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl has Guehi on a list of defensive targets. The German champions are now using in-depth scouting shortlists, and Guehi is reportedly being considered should there be departures from their current defensive lineup.

“Of course Marc Guehi is of interest — the Crystal Palace centre-back is a name on the radar,” Falk said. “But he would have come at a cost this summer. Now that the window is closed, Bayern will evaluate their current defence and potentially look to sell someone like Kim Min-jae before making a move. Guehi is a name for the future.”

From Liverpool’s perspective, Guehi’s situation is still fresh. The 25-year-old had completed a medical in London after a £35 million fee was agreed between Liverpool and Palace. However, the deal fell through late on as Palace opted not to sell.

While missing out on Guehi was a blow, Liverpool’s acquisitions of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz softened the impact. Manager Arne Slot acknowledged the failed deal but hinted that Guehi remains a target.

Guehi being linked to Bayern — and reportedly Real Madrid — reinforces how close Liverpool came to signing a top-tier defensive talent. It also highlights the club’s strong recruitment, identifying elite players before Europe’s giants pounce.
