“Deal edging nearer” – Fabrizio Romano reveals a major Marc Guéhi update that could seriously worry Liverpool

After the Reds’ failed deadline-day attempt to sign the Crystal Palace captain last summer, Fabrizio Romano suggested earlier this week that Liverpool were “really pushing” to secure the England defender. However, a fresh update on Friday morning indicates that a major domestic rival has now surged ahead in the race for the 25-year-old.
Man City move ahead in Guéhi pursuit
Following reports from The Athletic about Manchester City’s growing interest, it appears Pep Guardiola’s side are acting more decisively than any other suitor. Romano revealed on X that City have made a significant move in the past 12 hours, presenting Guéhi with a strong contract proposal and showing readiness to open talks with Crystal Palace. According to Romano, the deal is now edging closer.
Liverpool risk being left behind
Although no agreement has been finalised, City are clearly further advanced than anyone else in negotiations for the Palace skipper. Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol previously reported that Liverpool’s move last summer would likely have succeeded had Palace been given enough time to line up a replacement — something that may have been avoided had the Reds acted earlier.
If FSG are hoping to wait and sign Guéhi on a free at the end of the season, that plan could easily unravel if another club pushes through a deal now — exactly what City seem prepared to do.
