Arne Slot and Curtis Jones seemed to be caught in a tense exchange during Liverpool’s 1–1 draw with Burnley on Saturday.
Another frustrating afternoon for the Reds saw Marcus Edwards equalise after Florian Wirtz’s first-half opener, and with the reigning Premier League champions now having dropped points at home to all three promoted sides this season, Steven Gerrard branded the situation “not acceptable”.
Scrutiny on Liverpool’s head coach has intensified in recent weeks, and fan-shot footage from Anfield showed Slot involved in a far-from-friendly interaction with the No.17 on the touchline.

Liverpool supporter @asim_lfc on X, who was seated in the Main Stand, captured the moment during the second half against Burnley. While the audio isn’t clear, the players’ body language suggests Jones was questioning a tactical instruction, with Slot emphatically gesturing to reinforce his point. The midfielder, however, didn’t appear fully convinced.

Disagreements between players and coaches are common in the heat of competition, and it would be a stretch to read too much into a brief in-game discussion as evidence of a deeper issue.
That said, given Liverpool’s difficult campaign and the growing pressure on Slot, the optics of a touchline argument with a key midfielder do little to help the overall mood around the club.
There will no doubt have been honest and direct conversations behind closed doors in the dressing room and on the training pitch over recent months. What matters now is ensuring those moments don’t develop into something more damaging. If Liverpool are to rescue anything meaningful from this season, maintaining unity between the squad and the coaching staff is absolutely vital.
