Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has emerged as an unexpected transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Scotland international is nearing the end of his contract at Anfield, with Spurs now pushing to secure his signature during the January window. Ornstein revealed on X that discussions are progressing as all parties attempt to reach an agreement.

Posting on social media, Ornstein wrote that Tottenham have accelerated plans to compete for the 31-year-old left-back, initially targeting him as a free agent in the summer, but are now exploring a move earlier than planned. While a deal is not yet complete, negotiations are said to be advancing.

Robertson has been a hugely important figure for Liverpool, playing a central role in many of Jürgen Klopp’s most successful teams. However, with age catching up and Milos Kerkez now ahead of him in the pecking order this season, his role at the club has diminished.

Speaking recently to BBC Sport, Robertson acknowledged that his current situation is unfamiliar to him, suggesting that his time at Liverpool may be drawing to a close.
