Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has emerged as an unexpected transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

With the Scotland international approaching the final stages of his contract at Anfield, Spurs are reportedly pushing to secure his signature as early as this January.

Ornstein revealed on X that discussions between all parties are progressing, although an agreement has not yet been finalised. Tottenham had initially planned to pursue the 31-year-old on a free transfer in the summer but have now accelerated their approach.

Robertson has enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Liverpool, playing a pivotal role in several of Jürgen Klopp’s most decorated teams. However, with age catching up and Milos Kerkez now ahead of him in the pecking order this season, his role has diminished.

Speaking recently to BBC Sport, Robertson acknowledged that being on the fringes is unfamiliar territory for him, subtly suggesting that his time at Liverpool could be drawing to a close.

A move to Tottenham would offer Robertson the chance to extend his Premier League career, with Spurs viewing him as a valuable addition who could bring experience, leadership, and quality to a relatively young squad. Despite a difficult campaign so far, his arrival could prove significant for manager Thomas Frank as he looks to steady the ship.
