Fresh injury blow leaves Liverpool defender sidelined for two months.

Liverpool’s injury woes have deepened once again, with highly rated young centre-back Wellity Lucky set to spend the next two months on the sidelines.

Arne Slot is already facing a severe shortage of defensive options, having lost Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley to season-ending injuries. The situation worsened further over the weekend when Joe Gomez was forced off during the 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth after colliding with Alisson Becker in the build-up to Evanilson’s opener, leaving the Reds without three senior defenders.

As if matters weren’t bad enough, even Liverpool’s potential cover options are now being hit by injury.

Lucky sidelined by hamstring problem

According to The Athletic, Lucky has suffered a hamstring injury that will rule him out for at least two months, further stretching Slot’s already thin defensive resources. The 20-year-old has made just one senior appearance so far,

featuring in October’s Carabao Cup loss to Crystal Palace, though he has regularly been named on the bench in both Premier League and Champions League fixtures this winter.
While he is not yet considered a first-choice option for major matches, losing the young Spaniard until at least April represents another frustrating setback for Liverpool—and a particularly cruel blow for the player himself.

Lucky has impressed at youth level, starring in Liverpool’s UEFA Youth League campaign and earning a man-of-the-match performance against PSV Eindhoven in November. His absence will also be keenly felt by Rob Page’s under-21 side over the coming weeks.

With defensive injuries continuing to mount, concerns are likely growing in the Anfield boardroom as the January transfer window enters its final days. Slot has little room left for further setbacks at the back.

Although tentative links to Micky van de Ven have surfaced, reports suggest Liverpool remain reluctant to pursue a centre-back this month, a position that will leave supporters anxious heading into the business end of the season. Many will be hoping FSG reconsider before the deadline, while everyone at the club will be wishing Lucky a swift and full recovery from this unfortunate injury.
