“‘Complete nonsense’ – Winger firmly dismisses latest Liverpool transfer speculation”

Anthony Gordon has firmly rejected recent claims linking him with a move to Liverpool, dismissing the speculation as “a load of rubbish.”

The Newcastle winger was close to joining the Reds two summers ago and was reportedly interested in returning to his hometown club. However, he remained at St James’ Park and helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup last year.

Recent reports suggested that Liverpool are still interested in the 24-year-old and are ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign him. But after scoring four goals in Newcastle’s 6-1 rout of Qarabag on Wednesday, Gordon made it clear he is not considering a move.

Asked about the rumours, he told Chronicle Live: “About me? I haven’t seen them. What are they saying? It’s the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat. I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you [the media]. I’ve gone through enough transfer stuff now to know that it’s all a load of rubbish.”

Although Gordon had considered returning to Liverpool in 2024—the club that released him at age 11—he appears focused on Newcastle for now. His four-goal performance in the Champions League has boosted his tally to ten in the competition this season, contrasting with just three in 20 Premier League games (with half of those goals from penalties).

His versatility across the frontline and homegrown status would make him an attractive option for Liverpool, but it remains uncertain whether the club will pursue him in 2026. A move could become more feasible if Newcastle fail to qualify for Europe next season, though the Magpies would likely demand a premium for their key player, who is about to turn 25.
