PSG vs Liverpool team update: Isak returns, while Barcola becomes a fresh concern

Liverpool were in need of a morale boost after their heavy defeat to Manchester City, and ahead of tonight’s Champions League quarter-final in Paris, Arne Slot has received some positive news with Alexander Isak returning to the squad.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the manager confirmed the Swedish forward is back with the travelling group and could feature for the first time since December, though he’s not expected to start.

Slot explained that Isak has completed nearly a week of team training and is fit enough to contribute, otherwise he wouldn’t have been included. However, he made it clear the striker is only ready for limited minutes rather than a place in the starting XI.

This comes as a timely boost, especially with Liverpool lacking experienced attacking options, even if Isak is likely to be used only as a substitute.

However, Liverpool still have several concerns going into the match. Alisson Becker remains unavailable, meaning Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to continue in goal despite a difficult outing at the Etihad. Stefan Bajcetic, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, and Giovanni Leoni are also sidelined, leaving the squad short in key areas.

There’s also the added risk of suspension, with Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Virgil van Dijk all one booking away from missing the second leg at Anfield.

On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain also have a few concerns despite being in stronger form. Bradley Barcola has returned to full training after an ankle injury, but Luis Enrique remains cautious about his readiness.

Meanwhile, Fabián Ruiz is still out amid ongoing controversy, and Quentin Ndjantou is also unavailable.

Enrique dismissed the idea of clear favourites, stressing that at this level of competition, matches are always unpredictable. Still, after their defeat to City, Liverpool will need to deliver a much stronger performance if they want to leave Paris with any chance in the tie.
