Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has been enjoying a strong season as a key part of Arne Slot’s preferred midfield setup. However, Mac Allister might miss this weekend’s away game against Southampton after being substituted during Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Peru due to a painful tackle. Even if fit, he could start on the bench as Slot manages the squad for a crucial week, particularly given the travel demands of Mac Allister’s international duty in South America.

Off the pitch, Mac Allister has recently addressed personal matters, including his high-profile breakup with Argentinian influencer Camila Mayán, a subsequent lawsuit, and unusual claims about their relationship. The couple parted ways two years ago, shortly after Argentina’s World Cup victory. Mac Allister began dating his current partner, childhood friend Ailen Cova, soon after. Mayán has since filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for time spent outside Argentina during their relationship and has accused Mac Allister of infidelity.

In a television interview on the Argentinian show Patria y Familia, Mayán said: “I was waiting for a moment to say to her [Cova]: ‘Do you have a problem with me?’ They would leave, and I couldn’t say that. But I greeted her politely and said: ‘I would like us to share more things.’ We share the boyfriend,” she added.

Mac Allister has largely avoided discussing the matter publicly, stating to The Mirror: “She took her path, I took mine, and that’s it. The lawsuit is in court, where it belongs, and we are waiting. Everything is fine, and she is within her rights.”

In a detailed interview with Infobae, he expressed discomfort over the media attention surrounding his personal life. “I don’t like being in the spotlight for anything other than football,” he said. “I was born into a football family, and it’s where I feel comfortable. But I understand that because of what we’ve achieved, we’re exposed to these things. If I hadn’t been a world champion, none of this would have come out. Still, if you ask me, I’d take the World Cup any day.”

Mac Allister also shared insights about his current relationship with Cova, explaining that while he doesn’t see himself as overly romantic, he makes thoughtful gestures. “For example, the other day was my girlfriend’s birthday, and I gave her flowers. I leave her messages like ‘Have a nice day.’ She recently told me it’s not about the gift itself but knowing I pay attention to what she likes.”
