Fans outraged by Ed Sheeran’s “rude” remarks to Ruben Amorim during live Sky Sports segment

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim’s debut as manager.

Amorim’s first match in charge took place at Portman Road against newly-promoted Ipswich on Sunday. Despite Marcus Rashford giving United an early lead in the second minute, Ipswich equalized with a stunning strike from Omari Hutchinson in the 43rd minute, earning a point.

Post-match, a Sky Sports interview with Amorim was interrupted by singer and Ipswich shareholder Ed Sheeran, who joined presenter Kelly Cates live on air. Cates introduced Sheeran, who remarked, “I don’t think he [Amorim] wants to speak to me,” before adding, “I loved it, I love being back in the Premier League.”

However, Sheeran’s unannounced appearance sparked backlash on social media. One United fan called his actions “rude,” suggesting Amorim should have walked away, while another described it as “embarrassing” for both Sheeran and Sky. Fans noted Amorim appeared visibly irritated by the interruption.

Reflecting on the match, Amorim emphasized the need for patience and team adaptation, stating, “It’s important for me to understand the players, their capabilities, and preferences. Today wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’ll improve.”

United now turn their focus to Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford.
