Jamie Carragher highlights the ‘issue’ between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah as contract negotiations remain unresolved.

Jamie Carragher has shared his perspective on the contract situation between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah, highlighting what he believes is the key issue.

Salah, 32, recently scored twice against Southampton to help Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. However, after the match, he addressed his uncertain future in the mixed zone, telling reporters:

“We’re almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay at the club yet. I’m probably more out than in. I’ve been here for many years, and there’s no club like this. But ultimately, it’s not in my hands. I love the fans, and they love me, but this isn’t up to me or them.”

Salah also expressed his disappointment over the unresolved situation.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, criticized Salah for the timing of his comments, considering Liverpool’s crucial matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City this week.

“I’m very disappointed with Mo Salah,” Carragher said. “[With] that interview yesterday… Liverpool’s focus should be on Real Madrid midweek and Manchester City at the weekend – that’s the main story for Liverpool right now. Salah rarely speaks to the media – this is only the third time in seven years – so for him to speak after Southampton, having just won the game, feels unnecessary.”

Despite his initial criticism, Carragher later took a more measured approach, explaining the underlying disagreement between Salah and the club.

“It’s clear the issue is what Salah feels he’s worth, whether financially or in terms of contract length, versus what Liverpool think at this moment,” Carragher said. “I just hope they can find a middle ground before the end of the season because I’m desperate to see him in a Liverpool shirt next year.”
