Liverpool’s victory over Real Madrid marks a historic first in Champions League history.

Real Madrid made unwanted history on Wednesday night with a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League. It has been a season to forget for Carlo Ancelotti’s team, who are currently 24th in the standings with just two wins from five matches.

In October, they suffered their first Champions League defeat since May 2023, as Lille pulled off a shocking win in the group stage. Then, just weeks later, they were convincingly beaten by AC Milan at home.

With their recent 2-0 loss to Premier League leaders Liverpool, Real Madrid has now set an unwanted record—marking the first time in their history that they have lost three matches in the group stage of the competition.

Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah secured all three points for Liverpool, leaving Real Madrid dangerously close to elimination. As of now, they sit 24th in the table, occupying the final play-off spot for the round of 16.
