Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to face Manchester United this season after reportedly agreeing to take over as manager of a new club.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly close to returning to Premier League management, just weeks after parting ways with Manchester United.

The 48-year-old joined United’s coaching staff over the summer, alongside fellow assistant Rene Hake, but was thrust into the managerial role after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal last month. During his interim tenure, Van Nistelrooy managed four matches across all competitions, securing three wins and a draw. Despite his strong start, new head coach Ruben Amorim chose not to retain him on his staff.

During his brief spell in charge, Van Nistelrooy guided United to two victories, including a win over Leicester City, who recently dismissed Steve Cooper following a five-month stint at the King Power. Leicester, currently struggling with only two league wins from 12 games and having conceded 14 goals in their last five matches, are now poised to appoint Van Nistelrooy as their new manager. According to The Telegraph, contracts are being finalized with his representatives.

The decision to bring in Van Nistelrooy has been led by Leicester’s owner-chair Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin. Notably, United are scheduled to face Leicester at the King Power on March 15, 2025.

After leaving United earlier this month, Van Nistelrooy shared an emotional farewell message with fans. “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support. Representing the club as a player, coach, and manager has been a privilege and an honor. I will always cherish the memories we’ve made together,” he said. He also expressed his enduring affection for the club, wishing them future success and glory for the fans who, he emphasized, truly deserve it.
