Carlo Ancelotti makes a striking statement as Real Madrid reportedly ‘choose his successor’ following Liverpool loss.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has addressed the media after his team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.

In one of the final matches of a dramatic week in Europe, Liverpool secured a decisive victory against their historic rivals at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Following the loss, which could significantly impact Madrid’s season, reports emerged suggesting the club has already identified a potential replacement for Ancelotti if results fail to improve.

In response to the speculation, the Italian manager issued a confident statement, reaffirming his belief in his team despite the setback. Currently, Madrid sit 24th among the 36 teams in the Champions League standings, trailing the top eight automatic qualifiers by four points and only two points ahead of those on the brink of elimination.

Alberto Cerrutti, a close friend of Ancelotti and contributor to Gazzetta dello Sport, revealed on Cadena SER that he had contacted the Madrid boss to gauge his thoughts on the situation. Ancelotti’s reply was bold: “You can tell them anything you want, but tell them that Real Madrid will be in the final in Munich.”

Despite Ancelotti’s optimism, there remains uncertainty at the club, with reports claiming the hierarchy is considering changes if performances don’t improve.

Who could replace Ancelotti?
According to journalist Roberto Morales from COPE, former Madrid coach Santiago Solari has been identified as the preferred successor. Solari, who briefly managed the team during the 2018/19 season, was spotted in the stands at Anfield, fueling rumors of a possible return. Morales added, “Solari is the chosen option if things don’t get back on track and there is a major setback in the coming months.”

However, Morales also expressed doubt about an immediate managerial change, noting, “I don’t see Ancelotti being dismissed. His achievements and significance to the club should allow him to finish the season.”
