New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly decided to sell a player after just two games in charge.
Amorim oversaw a 1-1 draw against Ipswich in the Premier League and a 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. While there is room for improvement, the Portuguese coach has commended his squad’s work ethic and their efforts to adapt to his tactics.
Standout performances from players like Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui, and Rasmus Højlund have been noted since Amorim’s arrival. However, due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints—exacerbated by the sacking of Erik ten Hag and Amorim’s subsequent appointment—the manager may need to rely on player sales to generate funds.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Amorim has decided not to renew Christian Eriksen’s contract, which expires in the summer. Manchester United is expected to seek a transfer fee for the midfielder in January, with Scottish champions Celtic reportedly interested.
Celtic, currently competing in the Champions League, could benefit from Eriksen’s experience if they advance past the group stage. However, Eriksen’s £150,000-per-week wage—significantly higher than Celtic’s top earner Callum McGregor—poses a challenge. A loan move, with United subsidizing part of Eriksen’s salary, is also a possibility.
In Scotland, contracts typically expire on May 31 rather than June 30, allowing greater flexibility for such deals compared to Premier League regulations.
