Liverpool warned star player ‘is gone’ as concerning contract claim emerges ahead of Man City showdown

Liverpool have been warned that one of their key players is likely to leave the club, ahead of their highly anticipated clash against Manchester City.

On Sunday, all eyes will be on Anfield as Premier League leaders Liverpool face reigning champions City. Pep Guardiola’s side is enduring a poor run of form, with no wins in their last six matches. Meanwhile, Liverpool has had a strong start to the season, suffering just one defeat and sitting at the top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite their impressive form, concerns linger over the futures of some key players. Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah could all leave on free transfers next summer if new contracts aren’t agreed upon.

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, speaking ahead of the match, suggested that Salah is “as good as gone.” He told The Sun:

“Even at 32, Salah would still offer value on a three-year contract. But if I were in Arne Slot’s position, I’d accept that Salah is leaving after this season, regardless of any mixed signals about his future. If he hasn’t signed by now, it seems clear to me that he’s gone.”

Redknapp highlighted how Salah’s potential move to Saudi Arabia last summer didn’t materialize, which surprised many. He added:

“With free transfers under Bosman rules, much of what Liverpool could have earned will likely go to Salah himself. If he’s motivated solely by football, staying at Anfield would make sense. But with astronomical offers on the table, it’s hard to turn them down. He might have been biding his time, knowing that next year he could pocket a significant portion of what Liverpool could have sold him for.”

Redknapp concluded by saying that if Salah wins the Premier League this season, it could serve as a fitting farewell, emphasizing that the ongoing contract uncertainty points to an inevitable

departure.
