Renowned journalist discloses potential announcement date for the verdict on Man City’s 115 charges.

Respected journalist Martyn Ziegler has provided a significant update on Manchester City’s legal dispute with the Premier League.

The reigning champions are facing over 100 charges for allegedly breaching Premier League regulations, primarily related to financial rules spanning a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.

On Monday, it was reported that the hearing for the case had concluded. According to the Daily Mail, closing arguments in this high-stakes case were completed on Friday.

A three-man panel will now review the evidence before delivering a verdict, expected in the “coming months.” However, Ziegler, writing for The Times, suggests that Manchester City could learn their fate as early as the end of January.

Ziegler reported: “Manchester City could receive a verdict on their alleged breaches of Premier League rules before the end of January, though legal experts anticipate any appeal process could extend into next season.

“The hearing into more than 100 alleged breaches, covering a 14-years period, concluded on Friday after nearly three months of legal arguments at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre.”

Additionally, it was noted that the initial 115 alleged breaches have seemingly increased to 130, though this discrepancy is attributed to a Premier League reporting error rather than the addition of new charges.

Since the charges were first announced in February 2023, Manchester City have consistently denied any wrongdoing. Earlier this year, City manager Pep Guardiola commented on the case, stating:
“I always defend my club—especially in these modern times. It feels like people want us not just relegated but erased from existence.”

If found guilty of the most serious charges, Manchester City could face severe consequences, including significant points deductions or even relegation.
