Marc Cucurella responds to Chelsea fans in a now-deleted Instagram post.
Marc Cucurella has responded to Chelsea fans following his two costly errors during their dramatic 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, December 8.
The 26-year-old slipped twice within the first 11 minutes of the match against Chelsea’s London rivals, both incidents leading to goals for Ange Postecoglou’s side. However, Chelsea staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down, with a brace from Cole Palmer and goals by Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez securing the win.
After his second mistake, Cucurella changed his boots, and fans won’t see him wearing the original pair again—they ended up in the trash. The Spanish left-back later posted a now-deleted Instagram photo of the discarded boots with the caption, “Sorry Blues.”
Jadon Sancho confirmed the fate of the boots in an interview with the BBC, saying, “I think after this game for sure they’re going in the bin, but after the mistakes, I thought he played fantastic.”
Chelsea’s victory, their ninth of the season, solidified their position in the Premier League title race. Enzo Maresca’s side moved two points ahead of Arsenal in second place and sit just four points behind Liverpool after 15 games.
Cucurella has been a key player for Chelsea this season, with Maresca naming him as the first-choice left-back while excluding Ben Chilwell from the squad. The Spaniard has featured in all but one Premier League game, earning his first assist of the season against Spurs.
Chelsea will next face Astana in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, December 12, before hosting Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday, D
ecember 15.
