Liverpool fans believe Arne Slot may have revealed his primary transfer target during his press conference ahead of the Girona match.
Liverpool fans suspect Arne Slot may have hinted at one of his top transfer targets during his pre-match press conference ahead of their Champions League clash with Girona.
Liverpool continue their European campaign on Tuesday against the La Liga side, having won all five of their group-stage matches so far, including victories over Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.
During the press conference, Slot praised Girona’s playing style, specifically highlighting Miguel Gutierrez, a left-back known for inverting into midfield. The Liverpool manager expressed admiration for Gutierrez’s performances and detailed the qualities he brings to the team.
What makes Slot’s comments intriguing is Liverpool’s apparent need for a new left-back, with the club reportedly seeking a long-term successor for Andy Robertson, who has been a key figure at Anfield since 2017. Gutierrez is seen as a potential summer transfer target, and fans believe Slot’s remarks may signal the club’s interest.
One fan on social media remarked, “Gutierrez’s interpretation of that role is up there with the best. Insane understanding of where the space is in relation to his teammates!” Another added, “He’s excellent. I hope he’s on our LB list.” Others acknowledged Girona’s ties to Manchester City, suggesting the Premier League champions might hold an advantage in securing the player.
Several supporters also compared Gutierrez to other potential targets, with one calling him “my alternative to Kerkez” and another describing him as “one of the best LBs in La Liga.”
Since Slot’s arrival at Liverpool, the club has made only two signings: goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and winger Federico Chiesa. However, with plans to strengthen the squad next summer, securing a left-back seems to be a priority, with Gutierrez and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez among the names linked to the Reds.
