Manchester United have reportedly finalized an agreement for Ruben Amorim’s first significant acquisition as manager.

Manchester United have reportedly reached a “verbal agreement” to sign 17-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego León from Cerro Porteño, marking Ruben Amorim’s first potential signing as manager. Although the transfer is yet to be confirmed, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared the details on X, stating that the deal will involve an initial fee of $4 million, plus $1 million in easy add-ons and up to $3.5 million based on future performances. León is expected to join the club in July 2025.

United have had difficulties in the left-back position, with Luke Shaw sidelined by injury, leading Amorim to deploy Diogo Dalot as a left wing-back in recent matches. The club’s latest focus on players under 26 aligns with this signing, and León, known for his speed and strength, had previously attracted interest from Manchester City and Arsenal.

In an interview earlier this week, León expressed his excitement about the potential move, saying he has been preparing for such an opportunity for years. He also mentioned that his agent is handling the transfer discussions. León, who won’t turn 18 until April 2025, could make the move after the 2025 Copa Libertadores, as suggested by Cerro Porteño’s vice president.
