Chelsea reportedly place a £39m player on the transfer list as Enzo Maresca has already decided their future.

Chelsea have reportedly decided to list a first-team player for transfer ahead of the January window.

The Blues had a hectic summer focused on overhauling their squad, which initially consisted of 43 players when they faced Manchester City in their Premier League opener. Manager Enzo Maresca successfully streamlined the squad in his first major challenge as Chelsea boss, though some players, such as Ben Chilwell—left out of the Premier League squad—remain under contract.

Maresca’s leaner squad has performed well, currently sitting second in the Premier League, two points behind Liverpool, although Chelsea have played one more match. Consequently, the January transfer window is not expected to be as active as previous ones, though a few players may depart.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, centre-back Axel Disasi has been placed on the transfer list. Signed for £39 million from Monaco in 2023, the Frenchman was a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino but has struggled for game time under Maresca. This season, he has made just two Premier League starts, mainly featuring in domestic cups and the Conference League.

Despite his standout performance in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City last season, Maresca has preferred Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Benoit Badashile in central defense. Chelsea are reportedly aiming to recoup as much of the transfer fee as possible, with Newcastle showing interest.

Funds from Disasi’s sale could be used to bring in a new striker, as Maresca expressed a desire to strengthen the forward line in August, potentially adding competition for Nicolas

Jackson.
