Thierry Henry has shared his thoughts on Eden Hazard, sparking a lively discussion among fans.
The 47-year-old Frenchman appeared on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football during Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with West Ham, alongside host Dave Jones and Jamie Carragher. Reflecting on Hazard’s career, Henry said:
“For me, there are players who execute when given the ball in specific situations. But this guy [Hazard] could rescue you from any situation, any position. The number of solo goals he scored, with both feet, turning defenders inside out—it’s on another level.
“This is the type of player I’d pay to watch,” he added.
Carragher questioned why Hazard, despite his incredible form at Chelsea, struggled to replicate his success at Real Madrid following his £130m transfer in 2019. At Madrid, Hazard played just 75 games over four injury-hit seasons before retiring in October 2023.
Henry explained, “Eden is someone who simply loves the game. He doesn’t want any drama—he just wants to play, enjoy his family, and take his holidays. If things don’t work out, he moves on. That’s exactly what he did.
“I worked with him in the Belgian national team, and there were moments where he would do things on the field that made you go ‘wow.’ Under Roberto Martinez, there were many times where the game plan was just to give the ball to Eden and let him sort it out. It was unbelievable.”
Henry’s comments, shaped by his time as Belgium’s assistant coach under Martinez from 2016-2018 and again in 2022, reignited debates online about Hazard’s legacy compared to Mohamed Salah’s.
