Arne Slot acknowledges error as Liverpool manager gets ready to serve touchline suspension.

Arne Slot admits he needs to stay composed as he prepares to serve a touchline ban during Liverpool’s match at Southampton on Wednesday night. The suspension comes after Slot received his third booking of the season against Fulham, adding to earlier cautions in games against Chelsea and Arsenal.

While Slot is typically more composed than Jurgen Klopp on the touchline, he acknowledged that he occasionally crosses the line when emotions run high. Reflecting on his behavior, Slot said, “I think in general I’m calm, but there’s a limit for me. I can get emotional, especially due to refereeing decisions or mistakes from my players. My players make more good decisions than the referees, in my opinion.”

Slot pointed to emotional moments during the Chelsea and Fulham matches. Against Chelsea, he was frustrated by VAR overturning a penalty decision, while the Fulham game was marked by controversial calls and playing with 10 men. “Maybe I should have stayed below the line instead of going above it,” he admitted.

Despite his passion, Slot said he’s learning that trying to influence officials by creating an “us-against-the-world” mentality doesn’t work. “In both games, the refereeing didn’t change despite my attempts to influence things,” he noted. “It wasn’t like we suddenly got favorable decisions.”

Slot expressed some relief that the punishment in England is less severe than in the Netherlands, where coaches are barred from entering the dressing room or speaking to the media during a ban. He explained, “Here, I can still talk to my players before the game and at halftime, which is where I can have the most impact. Ideally, I’d be on the sideline, but I got a yellow, and I probably deserved it.”
