Ruben Amorim has addressed Marcus Rashford’s future after the Manchester United forward expressed his desire for “a new challenge.”
Rashford was notably absent from the squad for Sunday’s 2-1 derby win against Manchester City, with Amorim later clarifying there were no disciplinary reasons behind the decision. Rashford watched the match from home and shared the team’s celebration on social media. Shortly after, he gave an explosive interview, admitting he’s ready for a new chapter, amid reports that the club might be open to offers for their academy graduate.
Ahead of United’s Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham, Amorim expressed his desire to retain Rashford, stating, “We are better with Marcus Rashford, it’s simple. We’ll work to get him back to his best because this club needs big talent, and he’s a big talent. My focus is to help Marcus perform at his highest level.”
When asked about Rashford’s comment about needing a new challenge, Amorim responded, “He’s right. We have a new challenge here—the biggest in football. It’s a tough situation, and I hope all my players, including Marcus, are ready.”
Amorim also spoke about potential squad selections for the Spurs match, including Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. “We have one more training session. If they train well, I’ll make a decision. I expect the best from all players every day,” he said.
Despite the uncertainty, Amorim confirmed he hasn’t had a personal discussion with Rashford yet, explaining, “We gave the lads a day off. He’s our player and is ready for the next game.”
Rashford, who has been at United since graduating from the academy, has made 426 appearances and scored 138 goals.
