Darwin Núñez responded to Southampton fans chanting “you’re just a sh*t Andy Carroll” by silencing them in style.

Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez delivered the ideal response to being labeled a “s*** Andy Carroll” by Southampton fans during Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash.

Arne Slot’s team advanced to the semi-finals with a narrow 2-1 victory at St Mary’s, thanks to goals from Núñez and Harvey Elliott. Southampton, struggling in the league with just one win in 16 matches and recently parting ways with manager Russell Martin, adopted a defensive 5-4-1 setup under interim boss Simon Rusk. Their cautious approach initially frustrated Liverpool for the first 20 minutes.

However, when Núñez missed a shot and Southampton supporters taunted him with the Carroll comparison, he responded in style by scoring minutes later. After finding the net, Núñez turned to the crowd and gestured for silence, showing he understood the meaning behind the chant.

Earlier this year, Núñez admitted he was initially baffled by the taunts during a game against Nottingham Forest, telling ESPN Uruguay, “I didn’t understand anything they were singing, but thankfully, I scored the winner.” Jurgen Klopp’s post-match advice to him? “Screw them.”
