Ruud van Nistelrooy has issued a caution to Marcus Rashford about leaving Manchester United, highlighting his perspective with a pointed remark about Real Madrid.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has already cautioned Marcus Rashford about the challenges of leaving Manchester United amid speculation over the forward’s future.
Rashford, along with Alejandro Garnacho, was excluded from the squad for United’s 2-1 derby victory over Manchester City, with manager Ruben Amorim reportedly dissatisfied with aspects of their preparation despite their strong performances in training. While Amorim has since stated that the players have a “clean slate,” Rashford sparked further speculation during a recent interview, hinting at a potential departure from his boyhood club.
When questioned by respected journalist Henry Winter about his future, the 27-year-old admitted, “Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” Rashford, who described being left out of the derby as “disheartening,” assured fans there would be “no hard feelings” towards the club he joined at the age of seven, adding, “You’re not going to hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United.”
Reports suggest United might entertain offers around £40 million for Rashford, with several clubs already expressing interest. However, Van Nistelrooy, who worked with Rashford during his time as assistant and interim manager under Erik ten Hag, has offered a word of caution.
Van Nistelrooy’s Perspective on Leaving United
Van Nistelrooy, who left United in 2006 after scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances, signed with Real Madrid and won two La Liga titles. However, he has previously acknowledged that leaving United often leads to limited options at the same level.
Reflecting on Dimitar Berbatov’s potential departure in 2010, Van Nistelrooy remarked:
“I know what it’s like when you’ve left – it’s gone, it doesn’t come back anymore. I was lucky to play for Real Madrid after United, but beyond that, the options aren’t the same. Playing for these types of clubs is a one-off for most players.”
Amorim’s Stance on Rashford
Despite Rashford’s comments, Amorim remains confident in his importance to the team. Speaking at a press conference, he stated:
“We are better with Marcus Rashford, that’s simple. We will try different approaches to help him return to the highest levels he has shown before. This club needs big talent, and he is a big talent. I want to help him succeed here.”
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 425 appearances since debuting in 2016 at just 18, remains a pivotal figure for the club amid ongoing uncertainty about his future.
