Manchester United fans have lost patience with one player and are calling for his departure following the defeat to Tottenham.
Manchester United fans have voiced their frustrations following the team’s Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
Ruben Amorim brought Alejandro Garnacho back into the matchday squad, but Marcus Rashford was once again left out, following his recent interview where he hinted at a potential exit. Amorim attributed Rashford’s absence to “selection” decisions and praised Garnacho’s efforts in training, although the young Argentine, who came on as a substitute, couldn’t prevent United’s elimination.
Tottenham opened the scoring early through Dominic Solanke, capitalizing on a questionable effort from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Dejan Kulusevski doubled the lead after halftime, and Solanke sealed his brace shortly afterward. United fans directed their criticism at Lisandro Martinez, whose defensive errors were highlighted on social media.
Gary Neville labeled Martinez’s clearance during Kulusevski’s goal as “whimpish,” while fans expressed their disappointment:
One fan wrote, “Martinez having an absolute stinker! Shocking defending. Cost us the game.”
Another said, “Martinez has been poor for months. Nothing like his first-season form.”
Others called for him to be reduced to a squad player or even sold, citing a decline since his injury.
Despite a late surge aided by errors from Tottenham’s backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who handed goals to Bruno Fernandes and Amad, Spurs held on. Son Heung-min’s corner goal and Jonny Evans’ late strike added to the drama, but it wasn’t enough for United.
Tottenham now join Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle in
the semi-finals.
