Liverpool ‘dispatch scouts’ to monitor surprise Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement from major Premier League rival

Liverpool have reportedly begun scouting their ideal successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who currently plays for a Premier League rival.

With Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Anfield set to expire in the summer and no agreement yet on a new deal, Liverpool are prioritizing securing the 25-year-old’s future. According to David Ornstein, the club has offered the England international a new contract amid reported interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants, whose first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal is sidelined for the season with an ACL injury, are said to be keen on Alexander-Arnold. Carvajal’s return at 33 may raise doubts about his ability to perform at his peak, further fueling Real’s interest.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have identified Chelsea’s Malo Gusto as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold and have dispatched scouts to monitor the young right-back. Gusto, who joined Chelsea from Lyon last summer, has impressed as the Blues’ first-choice right-back in Reece James’ absence and has also demonstrated versatility by covering at left-back.

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown highlighted Liverpool’s interest, stating: “Liverpool have Conor Bradley, who’s done exceptionally well and is part of their plans. But Gusto is highly rated, and their scouts have been keeping tabs on him this season. He’s not guaranteed a starting spot at Chelsea, especially once Reece James returns, which could make Liverpool’s offer of regular first-team football appealing.”
