Ruben Amorim has identified two Manchester United players for transfer ahead of the January window as he looks to make his mark on the squad.

Ruben Amorim may be preparing to let two first-team players leave Manchester United as soon as the January transfer window opens.

Amorim, 39, watched his team deliver a disappointing performance at Old Trafford on Sunday, losing 3-0 to Bournemouth. The result kept United in 13th place in the Premier League, with only six wins from their 17 league matches this season. While many of the poor results occurred under Erik ten Hag’s leadership, Amorim has seen his side win just once in their last four league games, a worrying sign for the Portuguese coach as he may look to reduce his squad in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Marcus Rashford, 27, was surprisingly excluded from United’s 20-man matchday squad, and a new club has emerged as the front-runner for his signature. Last week, Rashford told journalist Henry Winter that he felt “ready for a new challenge” after being left out of the squad for the 2-1 win over Manchester City on December 15. He has since missed both the 4-3 Carabao Cup loss to Spurs and the recent Premier League fixture.

It has now been reported that two other first-team players could leave in January. According to Fabrizio Romano’s GiveMeSport newsletter, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are both “available” for a move in the winter window. Romano mentioned, “For sure, both are players who could be available in January.”

Eriksen, 32, has featured in just nine Premier League matches this season and was an unused substitute in the defeat to Bournemouth. Lindelof, 30, has struggled with injuries, with his most recent issue occurring during the first half of last Thursday’s cup match against Spurs. He was absent from the squad on Sunday.

Both players have contracts expiring in June 2025, allowing them to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs starting January 1, 2025. United would prefer to sell Lindelof in January to recover at least part of the £31 million spent to bring him from Benfica in 2017.
