Manchester United fans are calling for an unexpected individual to leave the club immediately following their defeat to Wolves.
Manchester United fans are demanding the immediate departure of a specific individual following their 2-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.
The loss, which also saw captain Bruno Fernandes sent off for two yellow cards in the second half, left Ruben Amorim’s side eight points clear of the relegation zone. Wolves had an early scare when Jorgen Strand Larsen’s goal was ruled offside by VAR seconds into the second half, but Matheus Cunha eventually broke the deadlock, scoring directly from a corner.
This marked the second time in a week that United conceded directly from a corner, with Son Heung-min scoring a similar goal in Spurs’ 4-3 Carabao Cup victory. While Altay Bayindir was in goal for the Spurs game, Andre Onana found himself beaten in similar fashion at Molineux.
Fans, frustrated by this recurring issue, are targeting the club’s set-piece coach, though confusion remains about who currently holds that role. Andreas Georgson was appointed by former manager Erik ten Hag as the set-piece coach in the summer and was a visible presence early in the season. However, Ruben Amorim later brought in Carlos Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, assigning him responsibility for set pieces.
Addressing the matter after a recent defeat to Arsenal, Amorim clarified: “Carlos is responsible for set pieces, but Andreas is there to assist. That’s the arrangement.”
Fans voiced their displeasure on social media, with one questioning why the team’s ability to defend corners has regressed: “Someone should ask Amorim why we aren’t improving at defending corners. We brought in a set-piece coach for that, and things were fine until the roles changed.”
Others called for more drastic action, with one suggesting the set-piece coach should step down: “The set-piece coach has to respectfully resign at this point.” Another urged Amorim to reinstate Georgson, stating: “Amorim, what’s it going to take to hand set pieces back to Andreas Georgson?”
The match ended with Wolves sealing their victory through a late counterattack, as Cunha set up Hwang Hee-chan for an uncontested tap-in, leaving United’s defensive woes fur
ther exposed.
