Real Madrid ‘optimistic’ about securing Trent Alexander-Arnold’s signature in January after a significant update.
Real Madrid are reportedly confident of signing Trent Alexander-Arnold in January, according to claims.
Liverpool extended their lead at the Premier League summit to seven points on Boxing Day, coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Leicester City.
Despite the Reds thriving under Arne Slot in his debut season as manager, contract uncertainties surrounding Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk have emerged as a key storyline. All three players are out of contract at the end of the season, and no agreements for extensions have been reached yet.
According to Relevo journalist Javier Rodríguez Pascua, Real Madrid have informed Liverpool of their intent to negotiate a free agent deal with Alexander-Arnold in January and remain “confident” of finalizing the move.
Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that there is “optimism” at Real Madrid regarding the England international’s potential arrival, though any transfer would likely happen in the summer. The Spanish giants have long been linked with Alexander-Arnold, and the ACL injury to first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal has left them without a recognized option in that position.
As Alexander-Arnold approaches the final six months of his Liverpool contract, he is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January 1.
After Liverpool’s win over Leicester, Slot avoided addressing the contract situations of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold. Instead, he focused on their performances, highlighting areas where Alexander-Arnold could improve.
“We don’t discuss contracts publicly,” Slot told Amazon Prime Video. “That’s something for the players and Richard [Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director]. It’s not my place to comment on these matters in public.
“What I can say is that Mo had another excellent game, Virgil performed very well, and Trent, for the most part, was really good, with one or two exceptions. Particularly in the second half, he was very strong. We can talk about performances,
not contracts.”
