Defender Harry Maguire remains confident that head coach Ruben Amorim will succeed in turning Manchester United’s fortunes around, stating, “He knows exactly what to do.”

Amorim, however, endured a tough Boxing Day as United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux, marking their fifth loss in 10 games under his leadership. This latest setback left the team 14th in the Premier League table and extended their losing streak to three consecutive matches across all competitions.

Despite the poor results, Amorim has focused on implementing a new identity for the team, prioritizing a shift to a 3-4-3 formation over the 4-3-3 setup used under former manager Erik ten Hag. According to Maguire, this significant tactical change, coupled with limited training time due to a congested schedule, has made the transitional period particularly challenging.

“With the managers and the styles, it’s not like they have similar approaches,” Maguire told Sky Sports. “They are completely different in terms of what they want and demand. So, the transition period is going to be tough. But we have great belief in the manager and his coaching staff. I’m confident things will improve. He knows exactly what needs to be done to get this club back on track. He’s been very demanding and has done everything he can.”

United are currently 12 points away from the Champions League spots and just eight points above the relegation zone. Maguire admitted the team hasn’t set specific targets given their current struggles.
