Ruben Amorim has reportedly been involved in a behind-the-scenes dispute with a Manchester United player, leading the player to express a desire to leave the club.
Ruben Amorim has reportedly had a behind-the-scenes clash with Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is now considering a loan move away from the club.
Amorim previously left Marcus Rashford out of the squad for four straight games before reintroducing him as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Newcastle. However, a different issue arose with Zirkzee when Amorim substituted him just 32 minutes into the match following an underwhelming performance.
Trailing after goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton, Amorim replaced Zirkzee with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. The Dutchman’s early exit was met with sarcastic cheers from Old Trafford fans, and he ran down the tunnel in frustration before returning to the bench. Reports suggest Zirkzee was visibly emotional, with “tears in his eyes,” following the incident.
According to Corriere dello Sport via The Sun, Zirkzee has since had a disagreement with Amorim and is looking for a loan move. Having joined United in the summer for £36 million from Bologna, the 23-year-old has struggled, scoring just four goals in 26 appearances. Juventus, managed by his former coach Thiago Motta, has been linked with Zirkzee, alongside Napoli and Inter Milan.
Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli did not mention Zirkzee specifically but confirmed the club is monitoring “interesting opportunities.”
In a post-match interview, Amorim acknowledged the difficulty of substituting Zirkzee early and expressed sympathy for the forward, explaining the decision was made to benefit the team. He also revealed he had a conversation with Zirkzee afterward to offer support.
“You have to think about the team and the player because he’s suffering,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “I’ve been there. It was tough to make that decision, but I spoke with Josh because it’s important to communicate and support him. Josh is a good guy, and we will continue to stand by him.”
