Fans target one Manchester United player and urge Ruben Amorim to bench him, even after the draw with Liverpool.
Manchester United fans have urged Ruben Amorim to drop Matthijs de Ligt following the team’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
Amorim’s side started strong, creating several opportunities to take the lead in the first half. They eventually went ahead in the 52nd minute through Lisandro Martinez, who unexpectedly found himself in Liverpool’s penalty area before smashing a left-footed shot off the crossbar.
However, United’s lead was short-lived. Cody Gakpo equalized just six minutes later with a brilliant right-footed curling strike. Liverpool then took the lead in the 70th minute after De Ligt conceded a penalty for handball. Mohamed Salah converted from the spot, curling the ball into the bottom left corner past Andre Onana.
The penalty was awarded after the ball struck De Ligt’s outstretched arm, following a yellow card he received earlier. Fans were highly critical of De Ligt’s performance, particularly his involvement in the build-up to Liverpool’s first goal.
One fan commented, “De Ligt has thrown this away for Manchester United. A game to forget.” Another wrote, “I always hate handball penalties, but De Ligt, man, what are you doing?” A third added, “Complete control of the game, and it’s all undone by De Ligt in two moments.” A fourth demanded, “De Ligt needs to be dropped, how dare he.”
Despite Amad Diallo rescuing a point for United with a composed finish late in the game, De Ligt’s errors remained a major talking point among fans. The visitors nearly snatched a dramatic winner when Joshua Zirkzee set up Harry Maguire in the dying moments, but the centre-back’s effort sailed over the bar after an awkwar
d bounce.
